Description
This painting of two dancers leaping into the air has been my most talked about painting. I displayed it in New York at the Avery Fisher Hall gallery in Lincoln Center back in the 90s. A lost patron on vacation from Germany asked to meet the artist to make an offer to buy it.
I was on vacation myself and had a note on my desk when I came back into work. It said that he wanted to meet me to explain to me why he had to have this painting. We met and had lunch, and his story was riveting.
He bought the painting and I shipped it off to Germany. In my excitement, I had forgotten that I had not signed the painting. Each year he would come back to New York and visit me and ask me when I was coming to Germany. I had no intention of ever going to Germany at the time. As luck would have it, I was offered an international tour in a show, and one of our stops was Germany. I called up my patron and he came to the show.
He took me and a few of the cast members to his home to show off the paining. The painting fit perfectly in his home décor with matching furniture to boot. It was immaculate.
That is when I took the opportunity to finally sign the painting.
